'Acrobat not loading' problems

J

Jake

I'm having problems loading Acrobat documents from various Web sites.:

(Note: I have a full Adobe Acrobat Release 4 package installed, along
with a Release 7 Acrobat reader.)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------

When IE tries to load a PDF file it displays a diagnostic window:

"Acrobat plugin: Could not launch Acrobat"

followed by:

"Acrobat plugin: An internal error has occured"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----

Opera and Firefox just display a blank page.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
----

A fault in the set-up somewhere, I would think.

Any suggestions, please?

Thanks.

In my experience, Acrobat and Adobe Reader will not cooperate. I spent a
lot of time trying to get PDFs to open by default in the Reader and
finally gave up and removed Acrobat from my system. If it weren't for the
fact that I get occasional documents in PDF that I must read, I'd remove
the horribly bloated and appalling slow reader as well.

Get rid of Acrobat Reader 6 or 7. Search for 5.0 or 5.1. Never let it
'Upgrade'!

Thanks for that.

I've removed the release 7 Acrobat reader and updates, and that seems to
have sorted things out.

Adobe has made Acrobat Reader a disaster with their newer versions. I think
they hired some Symantec programmers.
