acpi bios?

My computer will hang if I attemt to use windows media player, try to run an
outside game such as sims, or try to run a game online, such as web sites
like gamesville. My system event viewer shows an error message of : AMLI:
ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illeagal address (0xcfc), which lies
in the (0xcf8-0xcff) protected range. I checked the HP site as recommened,
and there are no bios updates available. I am not super good at system
workings, but not a complete idiot either. This is happening even after a
complete system format and reboot, and all updates installed. everything else
seems too work fine. HELP !

the problem would be better understood if you could provide us with your
system specs

this may very well be an issue with your graphics card drivers/hardware ..
are you using the one that comes with this system or some other one. It would
also help if you would tell me how much RAM do you have installed. Another
thing that you may want to try would be to check to see the game specs(sims
the one that you mentioned does have very high system requirements).

When this first happened, I sent the drive to a tech and he said it needed
more ram, so it was upgraded to 552 mb. Didnt fix it tho. The puter has more
than enough system to run sims. I'm going to chk the graghics drivers and
such and will get back to you. As a side note, there is something that I find
very strange. My main drive is denoted as C: However there is another drive
in the My computer area denoted as D: Didnt always used to be there. It shows
7mb of storage with 4mb free. If you try to access it there is nothing there,
yet diskdefrag says there is. I Dunno.

sorry for the late reply. check what the disk management utility has to say
about this. To do this right click on your my computer and choose manage.
here you will find the option in the left pane that is for disk management.
Tell me what you have there.

Merry christmas and a very happy new year ahead
