That is true, but you're not spoiled for quality here either.
Most of the programs people are usually bragging about in
this newsgroup suck. For the life of me I can't understand why
they are so fired up about them. When I need a "free" program
to accomplish a certain task I usually have to create it myself.

That's a very biased and opinionated remark. Which programs specifically
are you talking about that "suck" ?

And I bet I could find bugs in any program you write :p

The very fact that no two systems are the same means every single program
ever written, has or potentially has, one or more bug's present.........
there's no way possible to resolve these (unless of course, everyone uses
identical systems with identical setups).

Tried several local/regional download sites from there, and ended up
with 5.09.0 all the same. Then tried the d/l from
<http://www.download.com/3000-2048-10014527.html>
and ended up with 5.09.1 (although the page says 5.08 something).
(Version number shows on the first setup screen when you run the
setup...just cancel after if the number is all you need to see)

Cheers ... I'll grab that one too ;o)

I won't name names out of respect for the authors
of the software. I agree that it is biased. Some people
like certain programs while others prefer to use others.

I guess my main point is that quantity is not better than
quality when it comes to software. The original poster was
bragging about the sheer number of programs available.
I'll take one great program over a huge stack of average
or below average programs.

Programs can contain "bugs" and still be highly useful and/or
entertaining. Bass Hunter for the Nintendo 64 has lots of
bugs (with freeze-ups during boat travel easily being the
worst), but it is easily the best fishing game I ever played.
