Accounts

Hi yas,

The anxiety is killing me! :(
How can I keep the things I love about Outlook Express (fast, easy
switching of multiple identities to keep different accounts complete
separate) and get the features I need in Outlook 2003 (calendar,
organization tools)

In OE 6, I have 4 identities for 4 POP3 accounts. :)
They are for Home, Work, E-shopping, and My Wife's. The purpose of 4
IDs is, when I switch IDs I know that I am receiving and sending only
from one of the 4 IDs. Keeps my life and my e-mail parsed and simple.
There is no way to mix-up the IDs and accidently send a mail to e.g.
"work" using my "home" ID. However, I want to "upgrade" to the features
offered in OL 2003 (especially a calendar [so I can replicate/share it]
and the tools offered to get even more control on e-mails, e.g. spam
filters, etc.).

Where is the anxiety?
I am afraid that OL 2003 will not allow me to maintain the 4 identities
that I have in OE.

There have been various fixes proposed
Parse received e-mails into separate folders based on the account (but
still within the same identity - yuk). Create different Windows
profiles and re-log-in each time you want to simply check the different
accounts (yuk). Create different accounts within OL and then choose
which account to send it through each time an e-mail is sent (I'll
definately forget to do that before I send!). None of these really get
to the simplistic logic and beauty of swithing identities offered in
OE.

Question
Will the new and improved Outlook 2003 allow me to provide multiple
identities (one for each account) and allow me to easily switch between
those identities?

Further anxiety :(
If I try the "trial version" offered by by MS, my system will be so
horrible altered by the trial version that a complete Office re-install
will be necessary to revert back to by beloved, if limited, Outlook
Express.

I am trying to switch from Outlook Express 6 to Outlook 2000 on Windows XP. I currently utilize 2 e-mail accounts that I switch between regularly on Outlook Express. I do not want to create another user in XP, too much switching and all my files are in my current user. Can an easy identity switch be done in Outlook like in Express?

Not quite as easily. To create separate profiles in Outlook 2000 you'd need
to configure it in Corporate/Workgroup mode, which may cause other problems
if you're a home user and/or not connected to an Exchange server. Your
other option is to keep both e-mail accounts in one profile and use rules to
move incoming messages to separate folders based on the account through
which they were received.

If you want to see the differences between the modes in Outlook 2000, look

The short answer is no. You could keep using OE for mail and use Outlook
for the other stuff, if you want.
