Accessing the 'My Computer" folder from my Desktop

I click on the 'My Computer' icon on my desktop and it takes 2-3 minutes to
load up the window with my hard and floppy drives and the Documents folder.
If I click on one of the icons and the click on the 'back' button to return
to the 'My Computer' display, it still takes about 1-2 minutes to loadl

I do not have this problem when I click on the 'My Documents' icon.
