Hi,
I'm running Windows XP Professional Edition with all of the latest
critical fixes and service packs installed. AS I'm visually impaired,
I often use IE's font and color overrides (all three overrides on,
background black, text white, links red, no hover).
Recently, after having visited the Windows Update site to get the
latest critical fixes, I noticed that this automatic reformatting
feature suddnely failed after restart. In stead of showing white and
red on black as it usually does, it showd white on white (seems it is
unable to override the page's background color as long as I've got
auto-reformatting on). This happens on nearly all Web sites including
Google and the Windows Update site itself, both of which ordinarily
work with IE's color and font formatting just fine.
I'm dead certain this thing worked all right before having applied
some of the latest IE fixes, as I've been having reformatting on all
the time and it just recently failed. Secondly, I've proofed this
thing happening on two XP machines myself, and asking in the Finnish
sfnet.atk.ms-windows group revealed that some other people have been
having these issues, too, so I'm not alone.
Thus, my questions are.
Is this something specific to a handful of systems or a real
accessibility bug related to IE fixes?
If it is and if MS doesn't know about it, where can I send a proper
bug report?
How would I go about fixing the problem? I wouldn't want to compromize
IE security. I really do wish this color formatting bug could be fixed
as quickly as possible, as it is a vital feature for some visually
impaired Web users (me included).
Thanks for all of your help in advance.
Ps:
When replying, please also forward me the reply via e-mail. My news
server doesn't have this ng and Google's interface is clunky, not
offering that many keyboard shortcuts (random-access GUi navigation)
or accessibility, as much as OE does.
With kind regards Veli-Pekka Tätilä ([email protected])
