Access2007: Modifying field/label width

In 2007, if I try to widen a label, the width of the associated field is
similarly altered. How can I edit them independent of each other?

Try this -- In design view click on the label and then move cursor to the
vertical side of the highlighted area until you see a double-headed arrow and
drag sideways to however large you want.
