Access to Services over TS

James

Hi, I'm using Terminal Services and the Remote Desktop Client (Mac) to
administer a Windows 2000 Server installation.

The connection and performance is very good. The only problem is that I
can't seem to interactively control any of the services. For remote
administration this is quite important, since it means that I can't access the
virus scanning software, backup software etc - which all run as services.

I understand that there may be some security limitations with acessing
"desktop interactive" services - are these blocked by TS? However, the
applications I am trying to work with are actually correctly written client/
server apps and I understand that these should work.

Does anybody have any experience or insight into this problem? Its been
very difficult trying to google anything since I am search ing for services on
a product called "terminal services".

Thanks in advance for any help,

James

??? you should have the same functionality as being at the console. The
apps I use don't have limited functionality over TS but I know that same do.

I don't think this is a problem with the applications. It seems to be such a
blanket problem that I can't imagine all of the 3rd party software I have
installed is unsuitable for use with TS. Some of the apps I have probs with
are:

Bitdefender
NovaBackup
RealVNC
Timbuktu

(I installed these last two in an attempt to workaround the problems with
TS).

If anyone has any suggestions of 3rd party software they know works - and
is available for trial. I could test whether it is just these apps or something
to do with the configuration. Any recommendations?

Thanks,

James
