In my system Windows2000 Profession NT is operating
system. Recently, NTDETECT failed problem does not
allowed to access any data or programmes. After
exhausting all our possible repair efforts, we tried the
hard disk as slave in other system to recover the
data, "access denied" warning halted us from recovering
data. Can you kindly guide me to recover data from NTFS
partition with password protection for the directories.
Hope favarouble guidelines.

First off if the data was encrypted with EFS, you may not be able to access it
the way you are trying if at all. Assuming it was not, while logged on as an
administrator try taking ownership of the folder being sure to select replace on
sub containers also. Then after taking ownership give yourself full permissions
to the folder and you should be able to access. Folder/file permissions are
accessed by selecting folder properties/security. Ownership is in the advanced
page/ownership. See the link below for more details. Though it is for XP, it
applies to W2K. --- Steve

Dude

If it's not encrytped, I find if you boot with a linux live-cd such as knoppix or damn small linux you can mount the partition and either put it on a floppy/cd-r, or push it onto the network

if it is encrypted, your options are limited. If it's really important, don't monkey with it and get yourself some professional assistance
