Access keys do not show underlined character

R

Ray Mitchell

Hello,

I have several buttons that I have set access keys for by placing an & to
the left of the character in the label I want to be underlined. In the
Design view of the GUI the underlines all show up properly. The only problem
is that when the application is run none of the underlines are visible,
although all of the access keys still do work properly when the appropriate
alt-key combination is pressed. Is there something specific to look for that
might cause this problem?

Thanks,
Ray

In Vista they only appear when you hold down ALT, is that it?

I'm sorry, but I didn't indicate my OS. It's WinXP. However, that is
apparently the case with WinXP too. When I press the ALT key the underlines
appear and stay even after I release the key. It would be nicer IMHO if they
were visible all the time. Thanks for your help.

I agree that the behaviour is annoying, but unfortunately that's how
it works.

It's getting offtopic now, but just in case someone stumbles into this
thread looking for the other thing - this is actually configurable in
both XP and Vista, at the same place where you can enable or disable
ClearType (I forgot what it is now, and it's different depending on
the OS, but it should be somewhere around Display->Effects).

For everyone's reference, this behavior was actually first introduced in
Windows 2000.
