Access Implementation

Hello,

I am a manager for a small business and a financial director for a
non-profit organization based out of Western Canada. Both have horrible IT
systems - and therefore have a very disorganized accounting systems. I know
that Access will help fix this problem for both organizations but spending
$200 on Access, per user, is excessive, even $200 for the entire organization
may be too much.

How could I build a database, that would allow me to be the only person that
maintains the database, but allows people to access the forms and reports. I
do have Access myself already.

WHAT version of Access?

The runtime for Access 2007 is free and can be installed on as many computers
as you want. The downside is that you will have to do extra work to allow the
users to use menus and some of the other built-in features.

As John pointed out, the run-time version may very well be a great solution
costing you nothing to implement. Then only 1 PC would require Access to be
able to do development.

That said, I do not want to discourage you, but you need to know that
developing a proper database especially one to be deployed for use by others,
requires a tremendous amount of work. Especially a financial tool. Yes, we
will always be here to help you with the journey, but I would urge you to
hire a professional developer in this situation. Unless you have hundreds of
hours to dedicate to this project do speak with a professional developer.

Are you trying to use Access for your accounting system? If so you
will need plenty of time to develop, test and implement the system.
There are some simple accounting systems available at quite reasonable
cost. Nothing fancy, but they should do the job for you. And less
costly in time and money than pursuing the Access solution.

Awesome, Thanks guys.

The database for the small business is fairly simple, but the one for the
non-profit is fairly large so, yea I am expecting to put in a lot of work for
it. But considering that I am currently going to school at UBC, I have time
over the summer and this will be a great hands on experience. It's good to
know that you alla re here if I need help!
