Access denied to MA Access DB

L

Lu Powell

I got an email from my brother with a problem I can't resolve. Here's the
gist of it:

"I am trying to get at a database I created under Access. Vista will not
let me open it. I had a problem and saved all my data files before
reinstalling Vista. After reinstalling Office 2003, which includes Access,
and then copying the file back to my C: folder, I get a message that says I
do not have permission to access the file and that I should contact the
administrator (that's me) or the creator (that's me). I have all the
permissions for the file, but apparently there are Access permissions that I
cannot set since I can't open the database."

The database file was not password protected under Access 2003.

He thinks I can solve the issue. So far, my searches of Technet and other
forums have not been helpful.

Thanks for your help.

Maybe Vista objects to the file being in the root directory of
the drive?
He may need to check the file for account NTFS permissions. He may need to
add his login user-id to NTFS permissions for the .mdb, with full
permissions, even though he is admin.

You the same FromTheRafters that use to frequent the AV NG(s) a couple of
years ago?

Yes, and I soon recognized you from your posts.

Nice to see some familiar faces in the groups.)

....and who else would use such a silly nym?

Thanks, good to be here. No computering for me for two years,
but 10,000 more miles on my motorcycle.)

Sent a 286, a 386, two 486s, a Pentium and a PentiumII machine
into the recycling stream. The fastest of my old computers (PII)
was 200Mhz (W98/Mandrake dual boot) ... and I was on dialup.

Now have cable broadband wireless network with two new laptops
one XP and one Vista. Thought I had better hit the Vista newsgroup
once I had everything set up. Lots of good info here once you learn
who to trust.

I hang in the NG(s) when I am between .Net contracts. So, I start a new
contract in Sept. and will start to limit my time again, better things to
do. ;-)

Since you'll be spending less time, maybe you'll also have less need
to constantly change your nym to avoid killfiles, hmm???

This is the list dating from Aug 8 to the present... tell me what I'm
missing:

The Bee (your newest)
Anti on Chicken Little(s)
Junk Yard Dog

Your friend probably saw all the stuff you had the time to post using
my name and its variations. In case he missed it, here's a very small
sampling of some of your better stuff:

It's safe: it takes one to a preview page first.

Hi, I am Paul Montgomery. As you all can see, I am sick, a lunatic, and
I am over the hill. Even I can see can how sick in the head I am, how
much of a lunatic I am, how old I am and how retarded in the head I am.

Did you see me just start attacking people for no apparent reasons?
That's usually how I am out of control. What really gets my nose open is
I like to jump in on other people's posts, trying to get attention,
because I am old, washed-up, I am lonely and I am loony.

I like to tell people that I am going to killfile them. I have done that
couple of times, with no results. So, when he or she side steps my
killfile, oh that's it, I get my nose wide opened, I have to chase
people around to other NG(s); I whine like a little dog much like you
all see me doing here, my and usually mindset and my M.O. modus operandi.

I like to post to people, harass them, like you see me doing here, and
in general, I am just an old fart with nothing going on in my,
otherwise, worthless, pathetic and lonely life.

You all remember now. I am Paul Montgomery, and I am sick, I need to be
locked-up and don't you dare open my nose.
