When I try to connect to a Windows 2000 server that is running Active
directory, I recieve access denied on Windows NT workstation. I can log on
to a Windows 2000 or XP machine and access this server. This is one of 2
domain controllers we have. The other domain controller has dns installed.
Any ideas?

Hi Teri,

Problem
========

A) When I try to connect to a Windows 2000 server that is running Active
directory, I recieve access denied on Windows NT workstation.

B) I can log on to a Windows 2000 or XP machine and access this server

Solution for A
============

A) Does windows NT workstation is member of the windows server 2000 Domain?

If yes, add the Everyone group to the "Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible Access"
group on the Windows 2000-based domain controller, and then reboot the
domain controller.

To make the change, run the following command from a command prompt. Run
the command as specified, including the quotation marks. The quotation
marks are necessary because the target group name contains spaces.

To add the Everyone group:
net localgroup "Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible Access" everyone /add

Teri, Also make sure the following items are checked

Microsoft has developed extensions for the Windows NT® 4.0 operating system
that allow this client platform to take advantage of features provided by
the Windows 2000 Active Directory™ service. These client extensions were
developed for customers who wish to deploy Windows 2000 Server in
environments with Windows NT 4-based client workstations.

System Requirements
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6a
Versions of Internet Explorer no earlier than 4.01

Active directory client extension can be downloaded at

B) Windows 95/98-based and Windows NT 4.0-based clients lack many of the
features of Windows 2000 Professional that are related to Active Directory.
The Active Directory client extension is an upgrade or patch for Windows
95, Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0, which enables the Active Directory
features.

Please let me know if you need further assitace on the same.
