Access Denied on a W2K sp4 server subfolder

Environment: AD 2003 mixed mode (backwards compatibility to NT4 domain
users. The NT4 domain was upgraded inplace to AD 2003, 6 months ago)

File Server was setup as a Windows 2000 member server when it was NT4 domain.

I have folder A with a subfolder AB. One of my users appeared to have
removed all administrator permissions from the folder AB. I am now 'denied
access' to the folder. I cannot delete or rename the folder A which I have
permission, on the AB subfolder, I cannot access to view permissions or
delete the subfolder.

I have tried logging on as many suspected users including all admin accounts
but was still unable to delete the folder. i have tried and failed on the
following:
1) tried cmd (dos windows) rmdir. 2) take ownership. All failed with the
same error "Access Denied."

I am hoping that someone encountered this problem and figured away to delete
the subfolder or atleast change permission to take ownership of the folder.

Your input is appreciated.
Thank you.

As a Domain Admin, which is also a local admin, you should be able to use advanced permissions to take ownership of the folder.

See tip 3528 » How do I set ownership and manage permissions from the command line or in a batch?
