Access denied for new folder

I created a new folder for some JPGs and then selected all and moved the
entire contents of one folder, including the subfolders, to the new folder. I
now get an access denied for everything in the new folder and can't preview,
copy, move, edit, or do anything with the contents. I need access to those
JPGs for an article I'm going to be writing. Any ideas on how to change that
condition? I've tried all the usual folder options. I can't even back them up
as I get an access denied error for the backup software.

Thanks! Although the reason at that site wasn't the same "cause" as wwhat
happened to me, the "fix" did work, after a fashion.
