Access compatibility with Vista

Del

I'm purchasing a new computer. The one I'm looking at only comes with Vista.
I've heard a lot of horror stories about Vista compatibility with older
applications so I'm concerned. Are Outlook 2003, Access 2000 and Access 2003
solidly compatible with Vista?

Vista is fine. All the anti-vista stuff concerns drivers to older hardware
attachments i.e. printers, scanner, etc.... There were no drivers for older
stuff... I've had no problem with the OS at all....

Hi Del

Yes, no problem with the applications you mention.

The only problem I encountered was that Vista can store program files deep
in a user's profile, when you expect them to be in the c:\program files\
folder even though this was the folder specified at installation. This caused
me a problem as my deployed Access application 'expected' the back-end data
files to be in c:\program files\.

Instead it appeared in the c:\users\BW\appdata\local\virtual store\program
files\ folder.

Not a problem when I finally found it, but quite a voyage along the way,
especially as the \appdata\ folder is a hidden folder so you have to expose
hidden files in the usual way.

You can override Vista doing by going to Control Panel\User Accounts\ and
clicking on 'Turn User Account Control on or off'. Uncheck the checkbox and
thereafter Vista will install programs where you expect them to be!

Good luck.
