Access 2007 Unable to Load Templates

B

Birk Binnard

This KB article

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958846

describes exactly the error message I get (Message 2) whenever I try to
load an Access 2007 template. Unfortunately the fix in the article does
not fix the problem. Google identifies lots of others with this same
problem and non of them have found a fix that works. Does anyone here
have any suggestions?

Are you using Vista? If so, to what folder did you save the template?

Yes, I have Vista32 Home Premium. The templates were saved into
c:\program files\microsoft office\templates\1033\access. There are
several of them there (<name>.accdt files). I get the same error if I
try to open one of them directly from Access 2007.

Correction - the templates mentioned in my previous post are the ones
installed with Access itself; they were not downloaded. From what I can
tell none of the sample templates got downloaded. What happens is the
download progress bar appears for about a half second and then is
replaced by the error message. If there is anything actually downloaded
I sure can't find it.

Hi Birk,

I could be wrong, but I don't think one is allowed write privleges to
C:\Program Files (or any subdirectory of), when using the Vista operating
system. Try moving an existing template file (*.accdt) to a new folder, say
C:\Users\{YourUserName}. Also, open Access by itself and set the Trust Center
settings to trust this folder first.

I'm fairly certain that none of the templates shown in Access 2007 are
pre-installed on your hard drive; I believe they are all downloaded, as
needed. Try this download site, to see if you have luck 1.) downloading a
template file, and 2.) opening it in Access 2007:
