Access 2007 Missing Field?

The Access 2007 table datasheet view includes an Add New Field placeholder;
however, some of my tables don't include this placeholder. Is there a way for
me to get this feature back? What would have caused it to be removed?

To re-enable this option for a database, go to:
Office Button | Access Options | Current Database
and check the box for:
Enable design changes for tables in datasheet view
