Access 2007 Compact Database Fix?

M

Microsoft

Access 2007

I have just experienced the major bug with Access 2007 that instead of
compacting the database it DELETES it - AAARGH!!!!

Does anyone know where I can download the hotfix for this? I've read a few
posts saying it will be available in SP2 whenever that is

Thanks

Assuming that you aren't getting any error messages, it's probably not a bug.
Rather you may have permission issues with the folder holding the database
file.

Make sure that you have Read, Write, Create, and Delete privs for the entire
folder holding the database file plus the .mdb or .accdb file itself.

While there, see if there are a bunch of files named something like DB1.dmb
or DB1.accdb cluttering up the folder. These are the failed attempts to
compact and repair. In fact your database is probably still in one of them.

SP2 is already out. Go to the Office button, then down to the Access Options
button, the select Resources in the left column. In "about Microsoft Office
Access 2007" it should say which version of Access and any service packs like
SP2.

I have the same issue. I downloaded the hotfix that didn't fix it as well as
SP 2 that didn't fix it.

My database is on a network share and I have full control over that share
and the files in it. I am the network admin to boot so I know that I have
full control.

The one thing I did notice is that when you do the "copy" of the
DATABASE.ACCDB or .MDB that the compact on close gets taken out. This is a
pretty serious bug the MS needs to fix. I am loading two or more 85,000 row
spreadsheets into the db for name matching every day so I need to compact the
db on close. Not very helpful when it gets deleted by the bug in the system.
