Access 2007 can't delete compresed files

Dario Quinones

Hi,

I upgraded Office from 2003 and since the upgrade when I close a DataBase
(.mdb) with the function "compress on exit" access can't deleted the
database.mdb file.

The database is in an Active Directory server and i'm trying with a standard
user.
But if try with administrator privileges it does automatically deleted it.

All the AD Permisions are fine, and with access 2003 didn't happend....

Any Idea?

Thanks

What permissions do you have on the folder where the mdb file exists? (and
what operating system is the server and in what folder is it located? Newer
operating systems have specific folders where, because of the build-in
security rules, Access databases should not be placed.)

1. You need administrator priviliges. Actually I'm suprised that you aren't
seeing any other problems with record locking unless all users have Read,
Write, Create, and Delete privs to both the database file and the the folder
holding it.

2. Do not do compact on close. I've experienced severe problems with it
causing corruption, or maybe finding corruption but not reporting it, with it
on. Instead do a manual compact and repair once a month or so. You really
aren't saving any disk space or increasing performance by doing it ever
shutdown.
