Access 2000, 2002 e-mail addresses

I'm new to this newsgroup, so maybe this is an old question.
I can enter an e-mail address into a cell in Excel and Excel
immediately knows that it's such. The mouse-over dialog
starts with "Mailto: (address here) Click once to follow,
click and hold to edit this cell." In both my Access 2000
and 2003 this does not work - I have to go through the
lengthy and cumbersome "Insert Hyperlink" function for every
address entered. This is both on the data entry form and in
the table itself. Also, in both versions, clicking and
holding will not allow editing of the cell, once Access has
decided (via "Insert Hyperlink") that the field is indeed an
e-mail address. I have to move into the cell from the
previous or following cell in the Tab Order. Access help
says that this works, but it doesn't.

Karl, as you found, trying to store email addresses in a Hyperlink in Access
is an exercise in frustration.

Just use a Text type field. You can make it look like a hyperlink (blue
underline), and behave like a hyperlink (SendObject in its Click or DblClick
event.)

If you want something more powerful than that, Tony Toews has more
suggestions in his:
Microsoft Access Email FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Thanks - I'll try that. I find interesting the fact that MS
put the feature that I like in one program of a set (Excel),
and not in another (Access).
