Access 07 & 03 on the same machine?

Anyone know if having Access 07 & Access 03 installed on the same machine
causes problems? My recollection is that having Access 2000 and Access 2003
on the same machine creates conflicts.

The issue that's currently facing everyone is that it takes a long time (a
couple of minutes) to switch from one version to another.

There were no issues with Access 2000 and Access 2003 that I'm aware of: I
know of people with 5 (or now 6) versions of Access on one machine: Access
2.0, 97, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2007.

I've had problems at work when I have had Access 2003 & 2000 on the same
machine. Perhaps the problem was an issue with how the IT department set up
the computers (beyond my expertise).

I can deal with a long time switching between the Access 2003 and 2007 as
I'm not a heavy Access user. Since I'm not a heavy user of it, I would
prefer to keep Access 2003, as I'm more familiar with its UI than 2007's.
But I figure I should keep 2007 installed as well since eventually I should
learn how to use it...

Thanks.

Well, on my system it's about a minute but that's long enough.

The obvious issue of Access assuming that all MDB extensions belong to
the last version of Access you opened rather than the version of
Access of the MDB in question.

Hi Dave,

I have encountered some conflicts with multiple versions of Access, but
they're usually not too hard to solve. These include a blank Linked Table
Manager (http://home.comcast.net/~cccsolutions/accesstips.html) and the
database documentor not working properly (not that I use this tool very often
at all).

There have been early reports of the Help files failing to work when Access
2007 and 2003 are installed on the same partition. One way to avoid any
potential headaches is to install Virtual PC (VPC). This is a free download
from Microsoft. You will want to have plenty of available RAM memory (1 GB
minimum) before considering the use of VPC, but, if you choose to go this
route, you will have truly isolated installations.

Note: You'll need to load an operating system for each VPC that you create.
I'll leave the licensing issues up to you to decide the best way to approach
this.

Doug;

it is _CRIMINAL_ to support old Access apps

move them all to ADP or get out of the industry.

<START>,<RUN>,'sendto'

put shortcuts into the folder that pops up for each version of Access
and presto-chango; your problems are OVER!

I still don't believe in supported '00, '97 and '95; those versions
sucked balls.. I mean; they don't even support ADP!

I have a question that someone posted to me (I do not know much about Access
so I'm throwing it to the experts).

Were using Access 97 merging into Word 97 (didn't know access could go
into word - I thought Excel would be better choice)

Merged worked well, company is upgrading to Access and Word 2003
versions

Went to merge like before but seems to scroll through all 5000 files
in database taking 3 minutes (owner thinks this is too long)

Can this merge be done more efficiently?

What do you think?

Any help, thoguhts, websites, contacts would be greatly appreciated.

If you can email, I'd appreciate it, I don't frequent the newsgroups here.

You should be able to merge an Access Query selecting the desired
subset of records with no problem. Given proper indexing and query
design, this should be very efficient.

yeah; I just came off this LARGE mail merge project

we developed mass-mail letters using SQL Server Reporting Services..
I'll have to admit that it worked pretty well; I was impressed
