Heather M

It seeems the major culprit is a file named "hp30.tmp" at 14 gigs , with
"hp2.tmp" taking up half a gig. I have googled both and can't find either.
Can I delete them? I also have a lot of Twain files there (I do use Twain
scanners and Hp printers). Just how much of the Windows\Temp file can I
delete (if any)?
Thanks for any help.(and my backup program thanks you)

This from HP
Temporary Files
Temporary files created by the compiler or linker reside in the directory used by the
operating system to store temporary files. To store temporary files, the operating
system first checks for the TMP environment variable.
If the TMP environment variable is defined, the directory that it points to is used
for temporary files. If the TMP environment variable is not defined, the operating
system checks for the TEMP environment variable. If the TEMP environment variable is
not defined, the current working directory is used for temporary files. Temporary
files are usually deleted, unless the /keep option was specified. For performance
reasons, use a local drive (rather than using a network drive) to contain the
temporary files.
To view the file name and directory where each temporary file is created, use the
/watch:cmd option. To create object files in your current working directory, use the
/compile_only or /keep option. Any object files (.obj files) that you specify on the
DF command line are retained.

Anything in the windows temp folder and the temp folder under your user
account can deleted. If by chance xp is using the file when you try to
delete it, xp will tell you so and not let you delete it.

During installs, some programs and drivers expand files in the \Documents
and Settings\YourUserName\Local Settings\Temp folder, and then don't clean
up after themselves, after the install. HP drivers and software have a
reputation for that. If it's in the above Temp folder, it's fair game for
deleting.
