A7V8X-X Lock Ups

Dave

Hi All,

I'm trying to work a solution with a problem i'm having with my new A7V8X-X
and Athlon 2500 Chip Install. Since the installation i've had random
lockups, as frequently as every 2 minutes to 2 days. Usually when I'm
playing graphics intensive games.

Here's my current configuration:

Athlon 2500
Nvidia FX5600
Creative Soundblaster Live
512MB DDR 2100
40GB WD HD
120GB Maxtor HD
HP CD Writer
450W Power Supply
Windows XP Pro (Fresh Install) Only Norton Antivirus & Nvidia Control
running
Normal CPU Temp: 38C
Max CPU Temp so far: 43C

I had 768 MB RAM, I removed the 256 and the problem was gone for 2 days, i
thought the problem was solved but today, every time i load up my game about
2 minutes in it locks up, the sound goes jittery, and i can't even
Ctrl/Alt/Del. I've tried a clean boot, and still doesn't help.

Does anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks In Advance,

Dave

I'd try it without the Soundblaster Live and see if the problem goes
away (VIA boards and Live cards don't play nice together).

If it still crashes try running memtest86 with 1 stick of ram at a time,
check and set ram timings manually if needed.

I would also do a test using a stick of DDR 400 ram.

FYI: I've been using SB Live cards and VIA boards for 3+ yrs in multiple
configurations/boards. (Even *this* one, same board, same cpu). Never
once had a problems.
