A7V8X-X BIOS version 1003 vs 1005

Hi,

Installed a new PC today, with the ASUS A7V8X-X mainboard, BIOS version
1003. Got the famous "Hardware Monitor found an error". Checked Power Setup,
no values in red, CPU fan speed N/A.
So I checked the ASUS site, found something about CPU fan reading being
fixed in BIOS version 1005.
I flashed the BIOS (what the hell, MB is just 5 min. old) and what happens
next: error gone, but PC fails to boot (no IDE devices detected). When I
enter BIOS setup and then exit, the PC starts just fine.

How come? I couldn't find anything odd in the settings, and ended up
reflashing version 1003, then set Halt on No errors in BIOS so the error is
not halting boot up. System works fine apparently.

Does the 1005 version contain a bug or what?

Help?

Dennis

Mine has the same problem and I just disabled all the hardware monitors in
BIOS, set them all to "ignored" and then it works just fine and you still be
able to monitor temps and voltages and fan speeds in windows with AsusProbe.
I believe there IS a bug in the 1005 bios.

contacted the asus CS and no reply.

Try using PC2100 memory instead of PC2700. It was the only way we could get
around this problem in our shop without disabling the hardware monitor.
(Corrects the no IDE devices problem with the 1005 BIOS)
