a.. A7V266-E
b.. KT266A
c.. SB Live (now uninstalled)
d.. MSI G4 4200 Ti-TD drivers 52.16
I am having major hassles with something... sound was messing up badly - but seems to be sorted after switching to onboard sound.

I can't play media files without the PC locking up. Is this board XP compatible? where might I look to find a solution?

Also - is a 1600+ the faster chip for this board (as per the book)?

I had the same config (except different maker of the Ti4200) as well as
a 1600+ in there before, and it worked great. I did have a problem with
the SB Live with crackling sounds but I think it was just a SoundBlaster
driver update or Windows Update that fixed it. I have XP on it as well.

It is important that you upgrade the BIOS from the ASUS website to get
faster CPUs in there, as well as to fix some issues. Mine currently has
a 2400+, but you can get upto a 2600+ (266MHz bus) but those are hard to
find because nowadays they're only of the 333MHz variety. My
A7V266-E's been running for almost 2 years now, and it runs perfectly
with today's applications.

Good luck,

Got the same, just with a Ati Radeon 9600 Pro.

All is fine with mine.

Upgrade all your drivers.

That shoud; fix it.
