A7N8X-X --> No Sound

Can anyone help?

Just installed this new mobo together with an 2600XP CPU (333FSB) and
512 DDR400. Everything works fine except sound - not a peep out of it
since I built it!?

The BIOS setting for onboard sound is on, speakers are on (and turned
up), plug is in the right socket....

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Have you gone into the control panel/mixer to see if you have
anything muted?

Check the FPAUDIO header in the manual. While the manual doesn't
show it, there should be a jumper between Line_Out_R and BLine_Out_R
and a jumper between Line_Out_L and BLine_Out_L. The jumpers must be
in place, as long as you aren't using computer case front connectors.

So, remove any cable harness you have connected to FPAUDIO and put
the two jumpers back in place. The computer case must have a matching
pair of IN and OUT wires to connect in place of the two jumpers,
for a front panel audio output jack to get along with the Line_out
on the back of the computer. An improperly designed computer case
jack will just give sound out on the front of the computer, and not
the back.

MIC2 X X AGND
MICPWR X X +5VA
Line_out_R X<-->X BLINE_OUT_R
NC X
Line_out_L X<-->X BLINE_OUT_L

Yep, tried all the noddy things (channel muted; plugs incorrectly
wired; faulty speakers; etc)... not a beep!

Paul,

I wish I could write to you direct to make sure you get this message -
many thanks! The jumper solution worked a treat and all is now loud!

I had searched the Internet for a few days and found several other
fixes but not this one. Thanks for pointing it out to me!

That fault is a common one. Some motherboards are apparently
shipped without the jumpers in place, so it was worth a shot.

Enjoy,
Paul
