A7N8X-X Freezing

I have just built a system with the following spec:
A7N8X-X
XP2600+ (barton core)
2x256Mb (3200) memory
Radeon 9600 Pro Graphics card

Win XP Pro

However, when I am using the system it frequently 'freezes' and can only be
restarted by pressing the reset button. The freezes occur during games, word
processing, surfing the internet and sometimes just on the screensaver, the
one occasion that it will definately freeze is when I am watching the movie
trailers on the RealPlayer site. I have reinstalled windows, swapped the
CPU, memory & graphics card but the problem persists.

This only leaves the A7N8X-X, I have found that dropping the speed down from
166 to 100 results in less freezes but this is still not an ideal solution.

Is there a mobo setting that I have overlooked (I have tried upgrading the
bios from 1006 to 1007), or is it simply a faulty board?

TIA

Don't leave any setting in the BIOS on "Auto". If you can lock the RAM
to 100% do it. If you can lock the AGP to 66Mhz that's a good idea
also. If you take the side off the PC do the lock ups stop?

What Wattage PSU are you using?

Also what cpu temps are you getting?

Tried that but no joy *damn*. Also, I have had the side off the PC for some
time while the freezing was continuing (I don't think that it's a
temperature issue, the average temperature while running prime 95 is about
48°C-52°C) - strangely enough the PC will happily run benchmarking software
like prime95 & 3DMark2001 SE for hours without freezing.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

What is the brand and ratings of your ram?

These boards are really picky about ram and will only run stably with
relatively high quality ram.

The truth is out there. You just have to look in the right places and ask
the right questions.

Crucial RAM (CL-3) I have built two other systems with the same components
(except using XP2500+ CPU's) and neither of them suffered from the freezing
problem

Of the ten different apporoved memory brands for that board, Micron is
not one of them. Someone will post that Crucial runs great for them on
that board but YMMV.

That your ram that cause the system to freez... you should chek with
the manufacturer to get a 3200 mem ship to work with the board...
you should chek this crucial mem is not on the spec...
