A7N8X Rev2 & AMD3200 fsb problems

Dave

Hi

I've just finished upgrading my PC and now have an AMD3200 CPU and OCZ
1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series DDR CAS 2

The big problem is that I cannot get the PC to boot with FSB set to
200Mz. Is there any obvious reason why this setup won't work?

Any help much appreciated.

Do you have the latest BIOS?...I am running an asus A7n8x-deluxe,Barton
2500@ 200x11 (XP3200),and 768 OCZ PC3200EL ram...check your CPU core
voltage..I am running my 2500 at 1.70 volts...you should be fully capable as
I am.

Thanks Dino, I have the latest BIOS (7, I think) and will set my
system up to your settings and let you know what happens.

also I am running the UBER Bios mods..1007...but I could run at the 200FSB
before that even.

Tried these settings, saved and exited and PC didn't reboot. Turned PC
off and reset to Default Settings and then tried again with your
settings. Then got Speech Post Reporter telling me "System fail memory
test" and wouldn't boot at all. PC got stuck and wouldn't reboot -
took out RAM modules. Cleared CMOS and put back my old Crucial PC2700
RAM with fsb at 166.

So is the expensive OCZ RAM at fault or is it my mobo?

Well, could be either.

Try 180MHz FSB with RAM in synch - see if that works, then try 190, then 185
or 195... you get the idea.

DDR voltage should be ok at 2.7V, I'm under the impression that OCZ like to
run their modules pretty close to the edge, which means lots of voltage - so
check with them what the DDR Reference voltage should be.

I just purchased some Crusial 3200.
I'm running the A7N 8X delux
ATI 9700 pro
Everything else nothing special.

When I put the 512 two chips, in.My system booted to 100mhz
I went to the Bios and upped it to 200 now it's running solid. It is now a
3200+
Can anyone explain why yours won't work and mine does with no changes other
than the 200mhz? I'm just interested in knowing that's all. TIA

I've ordered some Crucial RAM and will let you know!

You have a 333 mhz fsb cpu, not a 400!

Sounds like you bought the 333mhz version of the 3200+!

He did claim to have an A7N8X REV 2 but I think AMD does make a 333
version of the 3200+.

get memtest86 and test the memory..I RMA'd one module back last month. When
I had it in I could only achieve 175mhz...with the new one am at 200. Run
it..if any errors show either return your RAM to the store or contact
OCZ...also try one module at a time at 200FSB.
OCZ is real good about RMAs...if you contact them explain to them the
problem and that if any errors showed it was by memtest.

It had 3200 on the CPU and AMD don't make 3200's at 333Mhz. The mobo
recognised the CPU correctly but the RAM won't work at this frequency.

Thanks Dino, I'll give it a go. I managed to get the PC to boot at
191Mhz but after that Windows XP wouldn't start and the Setup froze
(couldn't save settings and then the screen just came up with blank
Setup date and cursor - had to reset CMOS again etc.)

Neither module will work at 200Mhz FSB. The first pass on memtest86
brought up one fail address 00004f5fd60 79.9mb. Again, is it really
the RAM or may it be the CPU or motherboard?

I bought a refurbed Asus A7n8x deluxe board version 2
and OCed a 2500 barton to 3200 using a 200 FSB and all the memory Ive
tested on it worked the first time out.

Cheapo KBYTE mem 512 meg stick used with a cheapo Kingston 512 meg
stick both $50-60 a piece.

I also decided to test two sticks of Crucial 2100 DDR I bought a long
time ago at 3200 just for the heck of it since people at NEwegg who
bought it claimed theirs worked. I didnt expect it to work thats why I
bought the two 3200 sticks. To my surprise they work too.

I thought this memory pickiness was a thing of the past. I wonder if a
lot of people are still having problems?

Im using a Antec 400 watt power supply in a large tower case.
