[A7N8X deluxe] winamp2 audio dropouts

C

Chuck Kahn

I was experiencing audio dropouts in winamp2 while typing. A test I
tried was opening up notepad and holding down tab while playing an
mp3. Within 10 seconds, winamp2 would experience a dropout. The
same test in winamp3 caused no dropouts.

Updating NVIDIA's nForce Audio to 6.14.362.6 (08/09/2003) using
winxp's "update drivers" option had no effect.

Upgrading to winamp5beta had no effect either.

Checking Winamp5's "allow hardware acceleration" option (under plugins
/ output / Directsound output v2.2.8 settings) seemed to fix the
problem. I've not heard one dropout while typing this post.

FYI.

I always turn on the hardware acceleration in winamp, one problem I had
was not being able hear music out of the rear speakers with it off in
WA2, never had any drop outs though. I have the non-dlx mobo with just
the ALC650, now using a Audigy 2 with same setting except I've been
using that MAD winamp plugin set to 24bit and it sounds great! ;p

I use MAD too, and DAE for CDs... sounds good to me.

I don't listen to CD's much anymore, ripped all my good ones to MP3a and
put them on my 20GB MP3 player and hard drives. I just downloaded 6.4GBs
of MP3s (Original Master Recordings in 256bit/stereo) that are posted in
the a.b.music group. :)

Cheers,
Ed

To be fair, I usually use my Sony seperates CD player when I wanna listen to
CDs, which hasn't been for a while. I use CDs in the car (boot changer) and
MP3s or Radio at other times.
