A7N8X Delux SATA questions

Dr Teeth

I have just (yesterday) fitted a A7N8X Deluxe 'board and have some
questions about the SATA Raid controller.

1) Is it possible to disable the controller? I do not have any SATA
disks and do not expect to have any until large capacity 10K revs
disks are available. I want to do this as on boot up, the PC pauses
for about 10 seconds whilst a SATA BIOS message appears on screen,
inviting me to press ctrl+S or F4 to enter the configuration utility.

2) Is it possible to fit a SATA disk not in a RAID setup?

3) If it is possible to fit a single SATA disk, is it possible for it
to be bootable?

TIA and Merry Christmas and happy New year to one and all.

Cheers,

Guy

IF you read the manual...you would have seen there is a jumper to disable
SATA.

I had read the manual, but missed it.

all the questions you asked...minus the jumpers is quite possible..however
some say it is not worth the grief to set a single SATA drive..if you do and
want it bootable make sure to specify SCSI for boot( I believe) and have no
other HD's plugged in. I haven't done it yet due to waiting for the extra
coin to buy a pair of SATA's. But have been reading all the SATA posts so
far...as for my first reply it sounded snide...was not meant to be.

Yes - there is a jumper for this.

Yes. I had one SATA, now two SATAs - non-RAID.

Yes. You need to install the drivers, either via floppy when installing the
OS. Or, like me, via Device Manager from a PATA drive, then clone the PATA
drive to SATA drive - I used Ghost 2003.

BIOS has to be set to SCSI to boot from SATA.

Where did you find the SATA driver for windows 98?

Thanks for your reply.

How did you disable the RAID/configure SATA for single drives?

TIA,

It is done automatically. Nothing to disable.

I tried installing 98 on a SATA drive on the ICH5 intel SATA controller and
and it wont finish,it wont reboot. XP installs using the raid driver for Xp
but dont have one for 98.
usually with 98 and ME you install the raid drivers after the OS is installed
but in this case it wont finish installing.
