A7A133 MOBO and the CPU Settings - HELP!!!

Hello

I am having real problems with getting my CPU to run at the correct speed
and am hoping someone here can see the problem and how to solve it.

I have the A7A133 mobo (with SDRAM, 60gig HD) and have recently flashed the
BIOS to Revision 1012 - the ASUS site says that the fastest CPU this BIOS
can recognise is the AMD XP2600+ 266MHz FSB.

I have put the new chip (AMD XP2600+ 266MHz FSB) into the machine but am
only getting a speed of about 1616MHz when this chip should run at 2133MHz

The problem seems to be in BIOS when it wants you to set the 3 items, CPU
Speed, CPU Frequency Multiple, and CPU/PCI Frequency (MHz).

Currently I have these set at 1600MHz, 16x, and 100/33 respectively which is
why my speed is slower.

In the CPU Speed option there is the 2133MHz option sitting there but when I
choose this the system always hangs (I have left the CPU frequency at 16x
and tried the CPU/PCI at 100/33 and 133/33 but still get a hang if set to
2133MHz). If I choose "Load Defaults" then it sets it to Manual, 16x, and
133/33 which also causes the system to hang.

I have installed a monitoring device which shows ideal settings for the CPU
and the ones I have at the moment but it doesn't show how to change them,
they are:

Internal Clock: 2138.17 MHz - Mine is running at 1616MHz
System Bus: 267.27 MHz DDR - Mine is running at 202MHz DDR (I don't have
DDR - does that matter?)
System Clock: 133.64 - Mine is running at 101.00MHz
Multiplier: 16x - mine is 16x

Sorry this is such a long email but it's quite frustrating and I'd really
appreciate any help as I couldn't find anything on the ASUS site for this.

Thanks again

Is your mobo PCB version 1.0? I see they write both "ALL" and "1.0" on the
compatibility site.
The problem seems to be in BIOS when it wants you to set the 3 items, CPU

Seems as the problem comes when you select the 133MHz FSB, which should be
the correct one.
You could try setting parameters (multiplier and FSB) with jumpers instead
of in BIOS to try.
Did you load BIOS setup defaults after flashing?
Is your RAM PC133-compliant? How many sticks installed? Try with only one,
to check.
Did you have a CPU installed earlier? Which?
Your system could be underpowered, what kind of PSU do you have? Which
brand?
And last, your cooling solution could be insufficient. What is the CPU temp
when you run at the 100MHz FSB (200MHz DDR)?
Internal Clock: 2138.17 MHz - Mine is running at 1616MHz
System Bus: 267.27 MHz DDR - Mine is running at 202MHz DDR (I don't have
DDR - does that matter?)
System Clock: 133.64 - Mine is running at 101.00MHz
Multiplier: 16x - mine is 16x

This would be consistent with the computer having a problem with the 133MHz
FSB.

On the other hand, running this fine CPU with only SDRAM, and on an ALI
platform is not recommended. Its performance will be seriosly hampered. I
would urge you to get a decent mobo with DDR-support.

Thanks for that - i think on reflection a new mobo is the best way to go

can anyone recommend one with onboard sound as i have a graphics card
