A Word 'error'

Hi,

I' have a problem I hope somebody could help me with.
Whenever I try to open Word 2003, I get a message that tells me "Microsoft
Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close"

There's no error message listed other than this and the box that pops up is
not the sort or error box that usually pop up for whatever reason. There is
a symbol in the upper left that I've matched with the Microsoft Application
Recovery Icon which I've never seen before this incident.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Office '03 several times,
but there is no change in my ability to use Word. The other programs in
Office (powerpoint, excel, etc) open without incident, it appears to be only
word. I've tried looking for updates, but everything appears to be up to
date.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Your help would be very very
very much appreciated!

Re-installing will not affect the user files that are at the heart of the
