Where can I get the list of (what ever they are called) as in if you hit
"alt" and then 0176 on the number key board it shows the degree sign "°" I
wouldlike to get to know other signs

You don't need to type in the exe in the run line. just
go start\run and type in charmap and hit ok. It comes up.
The run line under the start doesn't need the exe
designation. Just the command line interface does. The
same goes for msconfig, regedit, and so on. No .exe
required. Have fun.
