A Few Annoyances that I can do without

S

Solitary Soul

Hi gang,

There are a few things that I find VERY annoying about Windows 2000,
and I would like to know how to turn them off:

1: Windows likes to collapse menus to show only the most recently-used
items - in particular, my favorites menu in IE and the programs lists from "start."

2: Windows likes to tell me things in little cartoon bubbles from my
task bar - IF I WANT TO KNOW, I'LL FIND OUT FOR MYSELF.

Does anyone know how to turn these stupid "features" off?

Thank you,

Solitary Soul

*Windows 2000
Right-click the "Task Bar", then on the "General" tab uncheck "Use
Personalized Menus"

*IE
IE|Tools|Internet Options|Advanced, then uncheck the box for "Enable
Personalized Favorites Menu"

*Office 2000
Tools|Customize|Options, uncheck "Menus show recently....."

Don't know about #1 but;
is "Control Panel->Folder Options->View" last item, "Show Popup
Description..." what you are looking for regarding #2? (i.e. uncheck it)

I was thinking the same thing. Calling a solid color box with a border a "cartoon" was a little strange. But hey Art's in the eye of the beholder I guess.

I think this has stopped it, but I won't know until the next time I restart.

Thanks!

Windows 2000:
Right-click the taskbar
Click Properties
Uncheck the box labeled "Use Personalized Menus"
Click [OK]

It's already unchecked.

Windows XP uses the "cartoon bubbles"

So does Win 2k.

I think this has fixed that situation - thanks!

*Office 2000
Tools|Customize|Options, uncheck "Menus show recently....."

If I ever get Office, I'll be sure to do this - thanks again!
