A document with the name "xx" is already open......

Opening excel documents directly from the My Documents
folder with the program not open we get the following
error message:

"A document with the name "xxx.xls" is already open. You
cannot open ttwo documents with the same name, even if
the documents are in different folders. To open the
second document, either close the document that's
currently open or rename one of the documents"

No other documents are open. When we close the error
message everything is fine.

When we first open Excel and then open from there, we do
not get this error message.

How can we stop this from occuring? Thanks in advance.

Re-register Excel to fix your file associations. From Start->Run enter and
run "Excel.exe /regserver" (no quotes). There's a space before the slash.

Sounds as though you might have a hidden workbook open.

When you first start Excel, go to the "Window" menu.
Is "Unhide" greyed out? If not, then click on it and unhide anything in the
list.
My guess is that you will find an "xxx.xls" workbook listed.
