a couple ntbackup questions

1) can you control the location of the log file? I didn't see a switch for
that.

2) I noticed a couple wierd things with saved job selections:

2a) if I saved one single file selected from root of c: drive when I later
load that saved selection file *all* the folders of the c: drive have the
grey check box? no files except the correct one is actually selected with
the blue check mark but I thought that was strange? the backup is a little
longer also because if 'processes' those directories but still only backs up
the 1 file. Whats the deal with that?

2b) when I save selections and later load them a remote exchange server and
selections from machines via network neighborhood do not show the grey
checkbox at their node root but do show the expected blue checkmark in the
right places when expanded. This is different from the locally selected
folders where a grey checkmark *is* shown for the root of the drive and any
parent folders leading down to selected (blue checkmarks) folders/files.
Whats the deal with that? is that normal? is the data actually backed up
anyway? (i'll know the answer to that last question tomorrow when I check a
completed job, but if you already know the answer please share)

any input is appreciated. Thanks.

No, it's fixed.

Can't see this in my flavour of Windows.

Who knows? Does it really matter? The second most important thing
is that it backs up your files, and the most important thing is that you
check regularly what it backs up and that you can retrieve it. You've
got to be pragmatic and take the program as it is, as long as it does
the job. You should now go for a fun session and restore an Exchange
installation from backup. This will give you the confidence that you
can do it when the crunch comes.

Who knows? Does it really matter?

It could. I would say anything like that is worth looking into a little,
with say, a simple post to a newsgroup where others may have seen it and can
say its normal, don't worry, or, that it may indicate a problem. Maybe what
I have described is a sympton of a known issue that could lead to possible
instability in the program. I don't think this kind of thing is trivial,
even if this particular case turns out to be.

I agree with your statements on the 2 most important things 100%. And I do
appreciate the reply.

Thanks.
