A 2nd hard drive

Greetings

I'm considering getting a 2nd hard drive. I will want to copy data
from my existing drive and then format it as the partitions got
banjaxed. During a partition re-size using Partition Magic there was
a power cut and although my data is still there PM can no longer do
partition work and my C: drive is only 6Gig

I don't want to 'ghost' the whole drive - only the data i want to save
So will it just be a matter of copy paste/drag drop?
