_SharedHardlinkData_ <---- What is it?

M

Microsoft NNTP

What is the _SharedHardlinkData_ direcotory on my C: drive, and why is there
a file in there taking up 11GB of my 20GB drive?
I can't access it, the only way I discovered it was via a backup, I noticed
that the directory was there, with a big file located within it.
I really would like to be able to use that space.

Any way to remove this?

I have never had any thing like that on this computer.

I analyzed it further, and I discovered a folder called NPROTECT in my
recycling bin.
within it there were two files. both reported zero size, but if I reported
the size of the directory, it was 24GB.

The hard drive is only 20GB.

Something is dreadfully wrong, but the drive scan and chkdsk doesn't report
any errors.
I removed Norton System Works to see if that was the problem, but that
didn't help..

Thanks for any help you might provide.

NProtect= Norton's Protected Recycle Bin. When you delete a file (any file
including clearing the Windows Recycle Bin), Norton's bin grabs it and
holds on to it. You have to empty that bin too to regain disk space.

You might be able to reinstall System Works and empty it. Or the program
will have abandoned the files and they will still be unreachable. Many
years ago, I fought with this one. I remember having to research the
problem at Symantec's Knowledge Base to get rid of the protected bin files
and then used an article from the MS Knowledge Base to rebuild the Windows
Recycle Bin. Sorry I don't remember more.

Hi,

Run a "chkdsk C: /r" on the drive from a command prompt (click start/run and
type cmd), see if that fixes the problem on reboot.
