I have windows 2000 AD with DNS installed. The DNS forward
lookup is AD intergrated. Inside that zone I have no
subfolders e.g MSDCS, UDP. I have tryed the following
article 310568 and have had no luck. I have removed and
added the zone and different zone with differnet names and
had no luck. I would be very grateful for any advice.

I hav etryed the netdiag /fix didn't do anythink execpt
list all the links that wernt there.

I have 2000 server so the aritcle below dosnt apply.

The server is the DC and GC for the domain. It is the only
DNS server and DC and GC that I have. I am becomeing that
desperate that I think the next step is to dcpromo my only
dc and start again. Or cerate another DC and set up DNS on
that. Although I dont think i'll beable to create anothe
DC because it won't be able to do the lookup.

Please post these:
ipconfig /all (unedited)
Domain name from ADUC

This will give us information on what to look for, if elsewhere.

I have posted the ipconfig /all not sure what u ment by
(Domain name from ADUC). the are no errors on the
netdaig /all becasue I have used abackup of the zone.dns
file and added it. So it was a standard primary then
converted it to AD intergrated. but know no hosts seem to
update there ip or name. it is set for dynamic update to
yes.

Thanks of any help.

If so you should use NIC teaming for this, If the are not on the same subnet
then you should change the range on one of the NICs.

Also the Primary DNS suffix is a single label domain name, if this is the
same name in ADUC. If this is SP4 then you need to add the registry entry
from this KB: 300684 - Information About Configuring Windows 2000 for
Domains with Single-Label DNS Names

If the the name in ADUC is different from the primary DNS suffix then this
is a disjointed namespace. (which can be fixed by running a script)

10.183.144.9

You should remove the 127.0.0.1 loopback and use the address for this
adapter for DNS(10.183.144.17).
If the 10.183.144.9 is not on this subnet it would be best not to use that
address on this adapter
Primary WINS Server . . . . . . . : 10.183.144.17
Secondary WINS Server . . . . . . : 10.183.144.18

Same for this adapter remove 127.0.0.1 and use this adapter's IP address if
the 10.183.144.17 is not on this subnet then remove it.

If these two adapter are on different subnet then you need to change the
address range of one to another range

I do see that you have NetBIOS disabled on one of these adapters so I'm
assuming they are both on the same subnet and you should use NIC teaming or
put them on a different subnet.

The ADUC names space it the same as the DNS suffix.

The problem is with the single label domain name. Follow the steps in "300684 Information About Configuring Windows 2000 for Domains With Single-Label
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=300684" to resolve this.

Thank you,

Colin,

Refer to TechNet article 260371 for help.

I am looking for help on resolving Disjointed DNS Namespace. I know that MS has a script to fix.

Thanks
