98SE broke but don't want to mess XP pro on dual boot

Noman

After a few windows 98SE startup errors I've deleted one of the graphics
card references in MSCONFIG by mistake.

Now when I start 98SE it works but the screen goes blank, although 98SE is
still running.

I don't want to reinstall 98SE on the C drive as it will mess up the XP
files.

Tried safe mode but its just not letting me F8 as 98SE normally does.

Any ideas.

You have uncheked or deleted from msconfig. If unchecked, can you go again to msconfig and chek it?

Hi,

When you select Win98 from the dual boot prompt, immediately afterwards hit
and hold the <ctrl> key to get the boot menu so you can choose safe mode and
correct your mistake.

Do you have a floppy boot disk?
Can you boot to a Dos prompt?
win /d:m at a Dos prompt will start Windows in Safe Mode.

Another option:
1.. Restart the computer. The computer begins processing a set of
instructions known as the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). What is
displayed depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a
progress bar that refers to the word BIOS, while others may not display any
indication that this process is happening.
2.. When the Boot loader menu (list of the available operating systems)
appears, use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select the version Windows
that you want to safe boot into.
3.. Press Enter, and then immediately begin tapping the F8 key. The
Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
4.. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the Safe
mode menu item, and then press Enter.
A third option:
A BootMenu=1 to the msdos.sys file
