9800 pro 128 bit versus 9800 pro 256 bit

Hi,

Just wondering the difference in perfomance between these two cards. How
significant is it? Also is a 9800 pro 128bit with 256mb better than a 9800
pro 256 bit with 128mb?

Thanks!

Some months ago the cost of the Sapphire 9800 Pro 128MB came down. Many
people snapped them up, and only when they received their cards did they
notice the box had a sticker on saying '128-bit'. Sapphire received a lot
of complaints from customers who thought they were getting a 'proper'
256-bit card. Sapphire withdrew the product, renaming it the '9800
Atlantis', and promised to replace all 128-bit cards with the 256-bit
version.

As far as I know, this only happened with 128MB 9800 Pros that Sapphire
released at the time. I don't think there was a 128-bit 9800 Pro with
256MB, but I'll happily stand corrected.

for the cost difference I would stay with the 256 bit...and if you find an
MSI green PCB 9800Pro it just might be a 9800XT in disguise.

I have both and the 256-bit is far superior. Sure, theyre both great cards,
but the extra 128bits of bus width really do make a difference in games
which take advantage of it - i.e. anything 3d ;)

A 128bit 9800 Atlantis (not properly called a 9800 Pro) performs about on
par with a 9600XT. The 256bit 9800 Pro is a lot faster.
