I have a simple network of two computers. One is a 98 and the other is XP
Pro. Both ping fine with each other so communication is good. BUT, when I
try and find a shared file from my 98 to the XP, I get the message
\\myxp\IPC$ followed by Password: (request)

How can I get this mysterious password which I never created????? HELP!!

I can find nothing useful from MS. Thanks in advance.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on the XP computer to fully enable file
sharing:

XP ICS - Starting the Network Setup Wizard

That should make the password prompt go away unless you've explicitly:

1. Created a password for XP's Guest account. If you have, enter that
password at the prompt.

and/or:

2. Disabled simple file sharing. If you have, see this article:

Windows XP Professional File Sharing
