97 vs. 2000 (quick handholding needed)

I am giving a presentation soon and the host has a list of conditions
about the talk. First, it is needed on CD a couple of weeks before
the date of the presentation. Here is another:

" Before submitting the CD, presenters are responsible for
pre-verifying that their presentation is CREATED [bold mine] with
Powerpoint 2000 software."

I own PPT97. Isn't a saved *.PPT file the same regardless of the
version (97/2000/XP) ? My talk has no animations, special effects,
etc.. No strange characters or fonts. Couldn't I just burn a CD with
the *.PPT file created in PPT97 and have the computer at the talk's
site (which obviously has PPT2000 loaded on it) open it properly?

Before posing this question, I thought that I'd work around this by
opening my talk in OpenOffice and then Saving as... and using PPT2000
as the file type. The only option in OpenOffice is to save to
97/2000/XP, they're not separate options.

Please advise.

Thanks

Eric

PowerPoint 97 and 2000 use the same file format and the differences between the
two versions are not significant. The host probably wants to ensure that no one
is using PowerPoint 2002 or 2003, which ARE significantly different. You should
be fine. A PowerPoint 97 presentation will run correctly in PowerPoint 2000.
Just save your presentation as Presenttation(*.PPT) and then use your CD burning
software to burn it to a CD.

Shhhhhhh. You don't tell, we won't tell and there's no way on earth they'll be
able to tell. File format's the same and there are no flags that say "I was
made in PPT 97"

Mum's the word.

Eric,

You're good to go.
Isn't a saved *.PPT file the same regardless of the

Those versions of powerpoint will open each others version of a file.
e.g. ppt97 will open an xp presentation.
PowerPoint 2002(aka XP) introduces a lot of new features, that powerpoint 97 does not support, but the file will still
open and play.
