Thanks so much for all the help.
I have the Intel drivers, there is no option for fast writes in my Bios and
yes I have set PnP to no and reset configuration data to yes.
I am ready to give up, go back to the old card and wait!

configuration data to YES - PnP OS installed to NO in the
bios?

BTW - you mentioned VIA 4in1's AND Intel chipset on your first post -
what
mobo do you have? It should only require one or the other and this
could

be

the problem!!

....bloody strange the other cards are working OK though if your sure
it
isnt a hardware prob.

Very kind of you to keep helping me. If I may impose on you re: the 4
in
1drivers vs. Intel. Here is the specs of my motherboard ... Asus
P-4B(http://usa.asus.com/mb/socket478/p4b/specification.htm)
Could you just take a look and tell me which I should follow up on?
(Via
or
Intel?) One ATI tech support person told me Via and the other Intel so
I
am
between a rock and a hard place that is why I have not updated either
at
this point. I had VIA before and all was well except with the 9600 PRO.
Yes, it is very strange that the other card is working fine. I tried
three
different 9600 PRO cards (and all have the same behavior!) at the
suggestion
of ATI tech support guys who they keep telling me that it is a
hardware
issue and I should exchange the cards I feel bad for the merchant I am
exchanging them with but they are very understanding.
Thank you very much indeed.

Why the frickety frackety hell would an ATI tech tell you to install VIA
drivers on that motherboard? I would have thought the VIA driver
install would have failed when it didn't find any VIA hardware.
They might not have installed anything, you should take a look through
device manager and see if there's anything funky in there.
If I remember correctly the 4n1s have an uninstall option in add-remove
programs.

My system is clear of VIA drivers. Ok, just as a test without changing any
software or settings I pulled out the 9600 SE card and dropped in the 9600
PRO and well ... the same problem appeared! Then I put back the 9600SE and
all is back to normal! Is this strange or what?
Thanks again!

One more thing. Shall I try an Nvidia based card and if so which would you
recommend that is as close to the 9600 PRO?
Sorry about all this!
