Dear all if you have not heard simply add these addresses to the following
file that should be opened with notepad and MSN will work.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts - (When you open the ETC folder open
the HOSTS file using notepad).

insert the following addresses:

65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com
65.54.239.80 dp.msnmessenger.skadns.net

(INSERT THEM DIRECTLY UNDER THE OTHER 2 ADDRESSES AND ALIGN THEM WITH TAB.)

Easy done ... good luck.

I clicked Messenger and it was away the first time to day.

Will reboot now and come back to you. Thanks alot I would have never
figured that out, so how did you know what to do?

Dear Raphael

First, apologies for posting this twice, first one with no comments.

Really appreciated your tip on editing the hosts file. MSN Messenger on two
XPSP2 machines here had suddenly stopped connecting with an 8004822c (I
think) error message. It seemed to coincide with installation of the recent
batch of updates from MS.

Are you able to inform us of any site that covers this issue, and its cause?

Thanks again for your helpful and effective post.

Cheers

WPeter
