5400 Grain Dissolver and MTF impact?

What kind of glass mount do you use on the Minolta 5400?

Minolta doesn't recommend glass mounting, presumably because the
thickness might cause the slide holder to jam. I dont have glass
mounted slides, so I can't help with that from personal experience. So
if you do try it, look for the thinnest version you can get. Single
sided glass would seem enough to reduce the film curl. Glass might
also cause chromatic aberration effects to emerge, Minolta doesn't say
why they don't recommend.

I doubt that is the case.

Just this week-end I again tested the various problems some have
reported for 5400 and VS. I used some 30-40 years old transparencies
mounted in the then fashionable (at least in Germany) glass mounts.
The consist of two relatively thick glass plates between which the
transparency and two masking papers (one black, one white) are
positioned. Then you have to very carefully "glue" them together with
small self-adhesive paper strips at every edge. The result is a 3 mm
thick mount which easily jams modern projectors (due to the sharp
edges and sometimes padding paper).

These mounts do fit into Minolta's holder rather snugly.

Their advice may have to do with the typical optical problems glass
mounts bring, like Newton rings (you simply don't have any without
glass), chromatic aberration due to refraction, bad focusing and
blurring due to reflections and dirt on the glass.

My question was actually for WD who used glass mounts on the 5400. But
thanks for your answer.

Might the glass cause problems with the infrared channel? Perhaps
its focus?

P.S. - There are some glass slide mounts with glass only on one
side (albeit the one I know of is a stereo format one
made by RBT).

Actually, I have used glass mounts on the Coolscan 5000: Gepe 2mm with
Anti-Newton glass
