The instll gets to the part where it says windows vista beta2 5308 in the
bottom right but that's all it says the rest of the screen is black and it
doesn't do anything else. What am I doing wrong? It just sits there forever.
Could it be my ati all in wonder 9000 pro video card? It worked in previous
builds why wouldn't it work in 5308?
thanks for any help.

how long would it take to get past this stage of the installation and how do
you reboot into safe mode if you are dual booting with windows xp? Just boot
into windows vista and press f8 at the blank booting screen?
Also is it normal in 5308 to not have a windows vista logo when you are
booting into installation?

Some persons reported a 3 to 4 min delay during the black screen, this is
what I have also experienced. I boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 when its
on the Boot Manager, it will boot into Windows Vista and finish the install.
This is how I finished the install for Vista x64 build 5342 when it got
stuck at Out of Box Experience.

The current builds of Vista 5308 to 5381 do not have a boot screen logo, so
what you currently seeing is normal behaviour, I suspect they are working on
something new, might see it by beta 2 or later.

Windows Vista Builds 5308 CTP, 5342, 5365, and 5381 are NOT Beta 2. They
are Interim Builds and are NOT to be considered Official Beta Quality. The
Real Beta 2 is NOT due out until Saturday, May 27th, 2006, just FYI.

Just installed 5308 tonight... first install run was kicked off from within
XP desktop... it started fine, listed the SATA drive during setup, and
proceeded in a fine manner, speed wise, right up until it BSOD'd.

Downloaded the SATA controller drivers, massaged them onto a floppy disk
(don't ask...) and booted to the Vista DVD. Wow... SLOW... so slow I hard
booted once because I thought the thing had hung. Booted to the DVD again
and just walked away. Came back a little later and the install screen was
up. No drives listed so pointed it to the floppy, where it found the
controller drivers, installed them, again... SLOW... found the drive and the
install proceeded on course.

Finally got to the Vista desktop... and it's running fine. Some bugs...
Media Center barfs during the setup wizard when I let it test the always on
connection.... Windows Mail barfs when trying to download NG's from
bellsouth.net. But Aero's pretty cool...

Dell XPS Gen 2

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
SoundBlaster Audigy 2 (Ha! just found a bang in Device mgr for "Multimedia
Audio Controller"... maybe that explains why Media Center is barfing...)
