i can't get the center speaker to function. all the others
work fine, all the plugs are correct, windows is configured
for 5.1 audio. and yes, i am playing a 5.1 capable media
file. i'm using my onboard 6 channel audio on my k8v se
deluxe. i doubt its the mobo though.

Is your center speaker a woofer? If it is, it may have its own volume control
button, check it out. Try speaker settings for desktop speakers, that may
activate all the speakers.

Center Channel is the Center, it can't be a sub. The sub will always be
your .1 (or .2)

I understand that, but he did not state that it was a center channel speaker.
I have six speakers hooked up with a woofer. You must be reading between
the lines.

Not reading between the lines, it's stating correct information. The
question is about the center channel, asking if it's the subwoofer doesn't
relate to the question.

Your 5 speakers in a 5.1 setup go as follows...
--Center speaker
--Front left speaker
--Front right speaker
--Surround (Or back) left speaker
--Surround (Or back) right speaker

--Subwoofer is your .1 in the mix.

Your 6 speakers in a 6.1 setup go as follows...
--Center Channel speaker
--Rear center speaker
--Front left speaker
--Front right speaker
--Surround (Or back) left speaker
--Surround (Or back) right speaker

--Subwoofer is your .1 in the mix.

If you have 6 "speakers" connected to your PC or HT then you have a 6.1
setup, not 5.1. If you have 7 speakers and one subwoofer then you have a
7.1 setup. The woofer will never be a center channel, it defeats the point
of a 5.1/6.1/7.1 setup.

i'm not exactly sure what you mean about the brackets but i
ran the windows version of the 6 channel test. it says
"front left, from the front left, "front right" from the
right, ...etc. so i know they're pluggd in right. when the
test gets to the center all i hear is a very slight rumble
from the subwoofer.
and i did mean the center channel (speaker) not the
subwoofer, sorry if there was any confusion.

Interesting... I also have a similar problem. I have a set of Creative Inspire
T5400 5.1 speakers with the SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card. My rear
speakers have stopped working in Windows whenever I play songs. However, they
work just fine in games. Mine could be a software/settings problem.

Funny... I swear that they were working a while ago.

You shoud have the Audigy Speaker Set up application installed - it's on the
main Audigy CD.

I can plug my speakers or headphones into the back plugins on my PC and they
work OK. But, how come I can't plug in my headphones into the same looking
ports on the front, there I get silence. This something I need to set or
what? Those headphone wires just won't reach fromthe back to the front
comfortably.
