4 speakers change to 2 speakers :-(

I have a Creative SB Live 1024 card with 4 speaker outputs.
I have the newest drivers.
I have configured 4 speakers in the Creative control panel.
I have configured 4 speakers in Windows control panel.
All seems to work well...

BUT, frome time to time I discover that the settings has changed to 2
speaker (I suddenly notice there are no "rear" speaker sound).

But I can't find what makes this happend all the time :-(

Any hints? Any known programs that would mess with this?

Where are these settings stored (if I knew I could put them in a .REG
file and reset them on each boot, not a 100% solution, but....)?

In the latest version of surround mixer there is a check box marked
"synchronize with control panel" untick this and set yer speaker setting to
4 speaker in the Creative mixer.

OK, maybe I don't have the latest version after all. I can't find that
box (can you explain where it is?). As I said both settings are at 4
speakers now, so I can't quite see what would mess up the setting

But if there is a newer driver version I'll try downloading it...

Still can't find it. I have the upper half of the Surround Mixer with
the "Speaker" drop down (now showing "4 speaker"). Below that there is
the 4 speaker images and a "Digital output only" checkbox below. To
the left is two buttons ("Test" and "Settings"). Nothing else.

The version is 2.00.29 and that is the laster for my card
(tried downloading it again yesterday and got same version)

Maybe they never relased that version for the Live. The Audigy 1 ( which has
the same control panels as the Live! in XP ) got it during tis lifetime. I
always assumed they made it available for the Live as well.
